Honestly, wasn't always a fan of 2010. I am hoping that by writing this post I can acknowledge all the bad, recognize the many wonderful moments and then leave this year behind and look towards a better 2011.
Low points: heartbreak, car accident, my Dad's diagnosis of Stage III cancer.
High points: accepting full-time position at IN, summer days/nights on MN lakes, weddings, road trip with Martha to the North Shore to visit Justine, and other random adventures with close friends.
A generic, summarized list, yes, but it highlights the points that stand out the most to me right now - and I'm avoiding reflecting too much on the year. Feeling that everything is falling apart has been pretty constant this year, but what has been more constant, came as a surprise: the amazing strength and support I've found in so many friendships and relationships - new and old. Relationships that bring clarity through chaos. Accepting that some friendships are fleeting and sometimes disappointing, while others not only last through the good times, but thrive and strengthen through the tough times. Lessons we are all told, but I am just learning.
And through all the up and down's my family has become even closer. We have always been pretty close, not just my immediate family, but extended family also - Sunday dinners, BBQ's, pool parties and random get-together's throughout the year are not unusual. I know how lucky I am to have such a great family, and to honestly say - living with my parents still is not all that terrible. Don't get me wrong - I can hardly wait for the day I move to MPLS, but with all that is going on right now I wouldn't have it any other way.
2010, you have not been my favorite - but you have given me just enough fond memories and relationships to not completely dismiss you. I continually tell myself things happen for a reason and am quite anxious for 2011 to prove this to be as true as I believe it to be.
Cheers to hope, patience, laughter, health, success, love, faith, family and friends in the new year!
Happy Holidays!
